Travels with a Gourmet

a food lover's travels, memorable meals, culinary trials and gastronomic experiences

Our room at the Penha Longa Hotel and the welcome amenities – a Nespresso machine and figs for us plus a large chocolate chip cookie with a glass of milk for our 6-year old.
We arrived at the Penha Longa Hotel in Sintra tired and hungry after the seven-hour drive from Marbella. The rooms were lovely and had fantastic views over the golf course and the forest that surrounds the resort.
After checking-in and leaving our suitcases in the room, we headed for the Japanese restaurant Midori to have a quick dinner. Lucky for us, there is a sushi buffet on Wednesday evenings where we had sushi, sashimi and assorted rolls to start and the tempura moriawase (deep-fried breaded prawns and vegetables) and teppanyaki gyu niku (beef cooked on a Japanese-style griddle) for our main courses. After our delicious meal, we went straight to bed and had an early night.
